KCC has two wins and one loss in the first three games of the 2023-2024 season. The team suffered an upset loss to Wonju DB (90-191) on March 28, but bounced back with a 91-79 win over Ulsan Hyundai Mobis on March 3.

KCC earned the nickname “super team” in the offseason, but to be honest, they are not a super team yet. That’s because the team is without Choi Jun-yong, who can play a variety of positions and is considered a key part of the team’s strength. Choi suffered an adductor muscle injury in the KBL Cup Finals and was diagnosed with a four-week injury.

The adductor is a muscle in the inner thigh. There’s not much you can do to heal it other than rest. Once the muscle recovers, he can start training to improve his condition. “I can’t train yet,” says Jeon. “I need to build up my body in four weeks. So it will take time (to return),” he added.

Song Kyo-chang, who injured his knee, will also need more time than expected. In September, Song was diagnosed with a posterior cruciate ligament injury and was removed from the final roster for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. Luckily, he avoided surgery, but it will take time for him to get back to full fitness.

Song Kyo-chang will be discharged from the army on May 15. According to the rules, he will be eligible to play from the home game against Goyang Sono on the 17th, but he will have to go through the D-League to improve his condition. He took a leave of absence at the end of the year, but he still has pain and can’t train with the team. KCC has been dubbed a “super team” because of the addition of Choi Jun-yong and Song Kyo-chang to the existing Heo Woong and Lee Seung-hyun. They added Alize Johnson, who played in the G League, but their current domestic roster is not much different from last season’s sixth-place team.
