Gangwon aiming for ‘Again 2021’, will they confirm stay in front of home fans?

K League 1 Gangwon FC aims to stay up. To do so, they want to relive the memories of 2021.

Gangwon will host Gimpo FC in the second leg of the Hana One Q K League 2023 Promotion Playoffs (PO) at Gangneung Sports Complex at 2 p.m. on Sept. 9. Having played out a goalless draw in the first leg away to Gimpo on June 6, Gangwon is determined to claim victory with home advantage in the second leg.

The first leg was tense. Both teams played solid defense, but failed to convert their scoring chances. However, it was Gangwon who took control of the game. They held a 64-36 advantage in possession. They also out-shot Gimpo 8 to 4 and had a 4 to 1 advantage in shots on goal. While their organic play in the opponent’s half was a bit lackluster, they did a good job of building up from the back to peel off Gimpo’s pressing defense.

It’s also encouraging to see that they’ve kept a clean sheet in their last four games. Gangwon hasn’t conceded a goal in 360 minutes between Round 36 against Daejeon Hana Citizens, Round 37 against Suwon FC, Round 38 against Suwon Samsung, and the last game. That’s about five months of solid defensive organization under Yoon Jeong-hwan.

On the other hand, it is unfortunate that the offense has only scored three goals in those four games. Lack of scoring has been a problem for Gangwon this season, and it has continued into the POs. It’s time for a decisive shot from the toes of Lee Jung-hyeop and Gabriel up front, and Gallego, Kim Dae-won, and Yoo In-su in the flanks and second line.

Despite the 0-0 draw in the first leg, the second leg is at home, so the center of gravity is slightly in Gangwon’s favor. While Gangwon has played at Gimpo Solter Soccer Stadium in the last FA Cup, Gimpo has never played at Gangneung Sports Complex, and having set a new attendance record of more than 10,000 fans per game this season, the home fans are likely to be in full force for the final match that will decide whether or not they stay in the competition. 무지개토토

In fact, according to Gangwon officials, N seats (supporters’ seats) were sold out as soon as ticket sales began for the home game of the second leg of the promotion PO. The W seats were also sold out. Gangwon players are expected to play with the enthusiastic support and cheers of their home fans.
