Manchester United were reported to be in talks with Antoine Griezmann, but the reports turned out to be fake.
Griezmann has risen to the top of the Spanish La Liga since joining Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014. He was a key member of the squad for five years, helping Atletico to a UEFA Champions League (UCL) runner-up finish and a UEFA Europa League (UEL) title.
Barcelona were interested and paid a €120 million buyout to secure his signature. Griezmann settled in nicely, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 36 Spanish La Liga appearances in the 2020-21 season, but Barcelona, facing financial difficulties, wanted to sell him.
Griezmann eventually joined his hometown club Atletico on loan. Initially, he was not welcomed by the Atletico fans, and his performances did not meet expectations. In 26 league appearances in the 2021-22 season, he scored three goals and provided four assists. However, he returned to form last season.
Griezmann played in all 38 La Liga games (31 starts, 7 substitutions), scoring 15 goals and providing 16 assists. And the transfer was finalized. So far this season, Griezmann has eight goals and one assist in 12 league games, leading Atletico’s attack alongside Alvaro Morata. He’s also been a standout in the UCL with four goals in four games.
This is why he has been linked with United. The Red Devils have been linked with Griezmann in the past. With Griezmann’s recent form, it seems that the Red Devils, who are in need of attacking reinforcements, have renewed their interest. United have had a disappointing start to the season. They are in sixth place in the league and are in danger of being eliminated from the UCL group stage. 무지개토토
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, “United are aiming to sign Griezmann to bolster their squad. United’s negotiators have held talks with Griezmann’s side, who plan to triple his current salary at Atletico Madrid and trigger his $27 million release clause,” the newspaper reported.
However, the reports of negotiations with United were not true. “Griezmann is not leaving Atletico,” wrote Fabrizio Romano, a highly respected journalist in European soccer. The reports linking him to Manchester United are fake. Griezmann loves Atletico and has no plans to leave the club, especially in January. Griezmann rejected offers from Saudi Arabia, despite their huge salaries. He only wants to play for Atletico.”
